Cynthia meaning
Cynthia is a Christian girl's name of Greek origin (via Latin).
Of Mount Cynthus (on Delos); an epithet of Artemis
Also used to mean: moon goddess, from Mount Kynthos
Cynthia comes from Greek Kynthia, 'she of Cynthus', a title of the goddess Artemis, who with her twin Apollo was said to be born on Mount Cynthus on the island of Delos. Greek dictionaries give Kynthios simply as 'of Mount Kynthos'. Roman poets used Cynthia as a name for the moon goddess, which is why name lists often give the meaning 'moon goddess'. The name is used by Christian families across India, from Kerala and Tamil Nadu to the Northeast.
