Euphrasia meaning
Euphrasia is a Christian girl's name of Greek origin (Kerala Catholic usage).
Good cheer, joy, gladness
Also used to mean: cheerfulness
Euphrasia is a Greek word for good cheer or gladness, which LSJ glosses 'good cheer' and other Greek dictionaries render 'joy' or 'cheerfulness'. In India the name belongs to St Euphrasia Eluvathingal (1877–1952), a Carmelite nun of the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel at Ollur in Thrissur, known as the 'praying mother', who was canonised in 2014. Syro-Malabar Catholic families in Kerala give the name in her honour.
