Hosanna meaning
Hosanna is a Christian girl's name of Hebrew origin (via Greek).
'oh save!', an exclamation of adoration
Also used to mean: save now, praise
Hosanna is the Greek hōsanna, which Strong's Concordance (G5614) gives as "oh save!", an exclamation of adoration. It comes from the Hebrew hosha-na, joining yasha, "to save", and na, "please", the plea of Psalm 118:25. In the Gospels the crowds greeted Jesus with "Hosanna to the Son of David" as he rode into Jerusalem, and the cry is repeated in churches every Palm Sunday and in the Sanctus of the Mass. As a girl's name it carries that note of praise.
