Delilah is a Hebrew name from the Book of Judges. Strong's concordance glosses it as "languishing", from the verb dalal, "to be brought low" or weak; the Brown-Driver-Briggs lexicon gives no meaning, only that she was the Philistine woman whom Samson loved. In the story she persuades Samson to reveal that his strength lies in his uncut hair and betrays him to the Philistines. Name lists often give Delilah as "delicate" or "amorous", which are not senses in the dictionaries. It is pronounced di-LYE-luh.
