Josie meaning
Josie is an international and Christian girl's name of Hebrew origin (English pet form).
Pet form of Josephine: Hebrew Yosef, 'let him add'
Also used to mean: God will increase
Josie is the friendly short form of Josephine, and it is now also used as a full name. Josephine is the feminine of Joseph, the Hebrew Yosef, which Strong's concordance translates as "let him add", from a verb meaning to add or increase. In Genesis, Rachel names her son Joseph praying that God will give her another child, and the son became the Joseph of the many-coloured coat who rose to govern Egypt. Name lists give Josie as "God will increase", in keeping with this. Its two light syllables, JOH-see, are easy to say, and it pairs naturally with longer Indian surnames.
