Carmel meaning
Carmel is a Christian girl's name of Hebrew origin.
A planted field, garden or orchard; Mount Carmel
Also used to mean: vineyard of God
Carmel is the name of the green, fertile ridge on Israel's coast where the prophet Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal. Strong's Concordance explains karmel as a planted field, garden, orchard or vineyard, from kerem, 'vineyard'. Name lists also give 'vineyard of God', reading the ending as El, 'God', which Strong's does not do. For Catholics the name recalls Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Carmelite order, whose convents, schools and colleges named Carmel are found across Kerala, Mangalore and Goa.
