Sarah meaning
Sarah is a Christian and international girl's name of Hebrew origin.
Princess; a noble lady
Sarah comes from the Hebrew Sārāh (שָׂרָה), from the same root as sar, "prince, chief", so the name means a princess or noble lady. In Genesis she is first called Sarai, and in Genesis 17:15 God renames her Sarah with the promise that she will bear a son. She is the wife of Abraham, and long after she had given up hope of children she becomes the mother of Isaac. She dies at Hebron at the age of 127 and is buried in the cave of Machpelah, which Abraham buys for her grave. Sarah is honoured as one of the matriarchs of Israel, and Sara is another spelling of the name.
