Lydia meaning
Lydia is a Christian and international girl's name of Greek origin.
A Lydian woman, from Lydia in Asia Minor
Also used to mean: woman from Lydia, beautiful one
Lydia is a Greek name meaning "a Lydian woman". Strong's Concordance explains the New Testament Ludia as the feminine of Ludios, a Lydian, a person from the kingdom of Lydia in western Asia Minor, in what is now Turkey. In the Acts of the Apostles (chapter 16) Lydia is a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira who hears Paul preach by the river at Philippi, is baptised with her household, and opens her home to the missionaries; she is often described as the first Christian convert in Europe. Name lists give "woman from Lydia" and also "beautiful one" or "noble one"; those last two are not senses given by Strong's.
