Jacinta meaning
Jacinta is a Christian girl's name of Greek origin (via Latin, Spanish and Portuguese).
Hyacinth: a blue flower, and a gem of that colour
Also used to mean: hyacinth flower
Jacinta is the Spanish and Portuguese feminine of Jacinto, the Iberian form of Hyacinth. It goes back to Latin hyacinthus and Greek hyakinthos. Lewis & Short explain that the ancient flower was not the modern hyacinth but probably a blue iris, gladiolus or larkspur, and that the word also named a precious stone of the same colour. In myth the flower sprang from the blood of Hyacinthus, a Spartan youth loved by Apollo. Catholic families know it through Saint Jacinta Marto, one of the three children of Fátima, canonised in 2017. In India it is used in Goan and Mangalorean families, often spelled Jacintha.
