Itishree (ଇତିଶ୍ରୀ, Sanskrit इतिश्री) is a name heard mostly in Odia families. It is built from two Sanskrit words. Iti is the small word meaning "thus" or "in this manner"; Monier-Williams explains that it points back to something said or thought, and that after a speech it works like closing quotation marks. Śrī means light, radiance, splendour and beauty, as well as prosperity, and is a name of the goddess Lakshmi; it is also the ending of Odia names such as Subhashree and Sushree. As one word, itiśrī is recorded in Hindi, where the Hindi Shabdasagar gives it as 'the end, conclusion', from the words iti śrī that close old texts. It is not in Monier-Williams, Praharaj's Odia dictionary or the Samsad Bengali dictionary, and no source explains how the Odia name was formed, so we treat Itishree as a modern name. Baby-name lists disagree about its meaning, and we could not confirm any of their glosses.
