Pooja meaning
Pooja (पूजा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, पू, it is a Kanya rashi name (Hasta nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Honour, worship, respect, reverence, homage
Also used to mean: prayer
Pooja (पूजा) is the Sanskrit pūjā, which Monier-Williams glosses as honour, worship, respect, reverence and veneration, used both for homage paid to superiors and for the adoration of the gods. Today the word is best known as puja, the central act of Hindu worship, which can be a short rite at a home shrine or a large temple ceremony. In its simplest form it is an offering of flowers or fruit to the image of a deity, often with lamps, incense and prayers. Many name lists give "prayer" alongside "worship". The name is also spelled Puja and is used by Hindu families across India.
