Vismaya meaning
Vismaya (विस्मया) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Wonder, surprise, amazement
Vismaya (विस्मया) comes from Sanskrit vismaya, "wonder, surprise, amazement", built from vi- and the verb smi, "to smile", which is related to the English word smile. Monier-Williams notes that in Indian poetics vismaya is the lasting emotion behind the sentiment of the marvellous (adbhuta). The dictionary also lists rarer senses such as pride and doubt. Name lists give "wonder" or "amazement", matching the main sense. The name is used in Kerala and Karnataka, and Vismay is the boys' form.
