Also used to mean: goddess of the kingdom, ruler's prosperity
Rajyalakshmi (राज्यलक्ष्मी) joins rājya, "kingdom, sovereignty", with lakṣmī, "good fortune", also the goddess Lakshmi. Monier-Williams records the compound in the Ramayana as the good fortune of a kingdom or the glory of sovereignty, the prosperity that the goddess was believed to bestow on a just ruler. Name lists give "goddess of the kingdom" or "ruler's prosperity". It is a Telugu name, distinct from the similar Rajalakshmi, "royal fortune", which is used in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
