Lakshmi meaning
Lakshmi (लक्ष्मी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A sign; good fortune, prosperity, beauty; goddess of fortune
Lakshmi (लक्ष्मी) is Sanskrit lakṣmī. Its first sense in Monier-Williams, from the Rigveda, is simply a mark or sign; it then comes to mean a good sign, and so good fortune, prosperity and success, and later wealth, beauty, grace and splendour. In older texts it could even mean an ill omen. Above all it is the name of the goddess of fortune and beauty, identified with Śrī and the wife of Viṣṇu, who is said to have risen from the churned ocean holding a lotus, which is why she is also called Padmā. Sītā is counted among her forms. Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, a leader of the 1857 rebellion, is among its famous bearers.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Lakshmi.
