Aswathy meaning
Aswathy (अश्वती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Malayalam usage). By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The first lunar mansion (nakshatra), the head of Aries
Aswathy (അശ്വതി) is the Malayalam name of the first of the twenty-seven lunar mansions, or nakshatras, of Indian astronomy. Gundert's Malayalam dictionary defines aśvati as the first constellation, the head of Aries, and explains it as a native form of Sanskrit aśvinī. Monier-Williams gives aśvinī the same astronomical sense and also records Aśvinī as the wife of the twin Aśvin gods, divine horsemen and healers; the word comes from aśva, "horse". In Kerala, some girls are named after their birth star, and Aswathy is one such name.
