Rashi meaning
Rashi (राशि) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, रा, it is a Tula rashi name (Chitra nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A heap, mass, multitude; a sign of the zodiac
Also used to mean: zodiac sign, collection
Rashi (राशि) is Sanskrit rāśi, whose first meaning is a heap, mass, pile or multitude, a sense found from the Vedas on. Monier-Williams adds an arithmetical sum or figure, a measure of grain and, most familiar today, a sign of the zodiac, one-twelfth of the ecliptic, or an astrological house. In Indian astrology a person's rāśi usually means the moon sign at birth, and families may choose a name whose first syllable is linked to that sign. Name lists give "zodiac sign" or "collection", and both follow the dictionary. The same spelling is also the name of the medieval Jewish scholar Rashi, which is an unrelated acronym.
