Arundhati meaning
Arundhati (अरुंधती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The star Alcor, personified as the wife of Vasishtha
Also used to mean: faithful wife, a star
Arundhati (अरुंधती) is the wife of the sage Vasiṣṭha, and Monier-Williams records her from the Rāmāyaṇa onwards. She is also a star: the faint Alcor beside Mizar in the Great Bear, whose seven bright stars are the Seven Sages. At many Hindu weddings the couple is shown the Arundhati star as a model of a faithful marriage. The dictionary divides the name a-rundhatī, which suggests "not obstructing", and the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha explains it as "unobstructed". Name lists often give "faithful wife". The novelist Arundhati Roy is a famous bearer.
