Diti meaning
Diti (दिति) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The goddess Diti, mother of the Daityas; also 'liberality, distributing'
Also used to mean: generous
Diti (दिति) is an ancient goddess of Hindu mythology. Monier-Williams describes her in the Atharvaveda as a counterpart of Aditi, and in the epics and Purāṇas as a daughter of Dakṣa and a wife of the sage Kaśyapa. Aditi's children are the Ādityas, the gods, while Diti's are the Daityas, the titans; in a well-known story Indra cut her unborn son into pieces, who became the storm gods, the Maruts. As an ordinary word diti also means distributing or liberality, a sense Monier-Williams cites from the Rigveda. Name lists give "mother of the Daityas" and "generous".
