Maithili meaning

Maithili (मैथिली) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.

Sita, the princess of Mithila; of Mithila

Maithili (मैथिली) is the feminine of Sanskrit maithila, "belonging to Mithilā", the ancient kingdom in today's north Bihar and southern Nepal. Monier-Williams records Maithilī as a name of Sītā, daughter of King Janaka of Mithilā, in the Ramayana and in Kālidāsa, and Rama's wife is often called by it. Name lists give Sita or princess of Mithila, matching the dictionary. Maithili is also the name of the region's language, now one of India's scheduled languages. A well-known bearer is the folk singer Maithili Thakur. Mythili is the usual South Indian spelling.
