Maitri meaning
Maitri (मैत्री) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Friendship, friendliness, benevolence, goodwill
Also used to mean: loving-kindness
Maitri (मैत्री) is the Sanskrit maitrī, from mitra, "friend". Monier-Williams defines it as friendship, friendliness, benevolence and goodwill, and notes that it is one of the four perfect states of Buddhism; the Pali form is mettā, the loving-kindness of Buddhist meditation. In the Bhagavata Purana Maitrī is Benevolence personified, a daughter of Dakṣa and wife of Dharma, and the word also names the Maitri Upanishad and the lunar mansion Anurādhā. Name lists give friendship or loving-kindness, matching the dictionary. Maithri and Mythri are South Indian spellings.
