Alka meaning
Alka (अलका) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A curl or lock of hair; Alakā, the city of Kubera
Also used to mean: curl of hair, a young girl
Alka (अलका) is the Sanskrit alakā. Monier-Williams gives alaka as a curl or lock of hair, and alakā as the name of the capital of Kubera, god of wealth, on a Himalayan peak where Śiva also lives; it is also listed as a word for a young girl. Kalidasa's poem Meghadūta sends its cloud messenger to Alakā. Name lists usually give "curl" or "a girl with lovely hair", drawing on the first sense. Alka is used in North India; a well-known bearer is the playback singer Alka Yagnik.
