Mohini meaning
Mohini (मोहिनी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, मो, it is a Simha rashi name (Purva Phalguni nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A fascinating woman; name of an Apsaras
Also used to mean: enchantress, captivating beauty
Mohini (मोहिनी) is Sanskrit mohinī, the feminine of mohin, "bewildering" or "infatuating", from the root muh. Monier-Williams gives it as a fascinating woman, and also as a kind of jasmine, the name of an Apsaras and of a daughter of King Rukmāṅgada. Name lists usually give "enchantress" or "captivating beauty". The name is best known from Hindu myth, in which Vishnu takes the form of Mohinī, an enchanting woman, after the churning of the ocean: she beguiles the asuras and hands the nectar of immortality, amṛta, to the gods. This story is told in the Mahābhārata and the Purāṇas, though MW's entry for the word does not mention it.
