Rohini meaning
Rohini (रोहिणी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, रो, it is a Tula rashi name (Swati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The lunar asterism Rohini; a red cow; Balarama's mother
Also used to mean: star, rising
Rohini (रोहिणी) is the Sanskrit rohiṇī, the feminine of rohita, "red", and also of rohin, "rising". Monier-Williams gives it first as a red cow, and then as the name of a lunar asterism of five stars in Taurus whose principal star is Aldebaran. Personified, Rohiṇī is a daughter of Dakṣa and the Moon's favourite wife, called "the red one" after that star's colour. The Mahābhārata and the Purāṇas also name Rohiṇī as a wife of Vasudeva and the mother of Balarāma. Name lists usually give "star" or "rising", and both readings have dictionary support. The name is used by Hindu families across India.
