Sati meaning
Sati (सती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A virtuous, faithful wife; the goddess Satī, Dakṣa's daughter and Śiva's wife
Also used to mean: truth, virtuous woman, goddess sati
Sati (सती) is the feminine of Sanskrit sat, "being, real, true, good". Monier-Williams gives satī as a good, virtuous or faithful wife and a female ascetic, and above all as the goddess, described as Truth personified, the daughter of Dakṣa and wife of Śiva, who gave up her life after her father insulted her husband and was reborn as Pārvatī. Her story is the origin of the Shakti Peethas. Monier-Williams also records that the word was later used for a widow who burned herself on her husband's funeral pyre, a practice outlawed in 1829. Name lists give Sati as "truth" or "virtuous woman".
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Parvati.
