Nutan meaning
Nutan (नूतन) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, नू, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Anuradha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
New, fresh, modern; young
Nutan (नूतन) is Sanskrit nūtana, new, fresh, modern or young. Monier-Williams sets it against pūrva and purāṇa, "former" and "old", and the pairing goes back to the very second verse of the Rig Veda, where Agni is to be invoked by the seers of old, pūrvebhiḥ, and by the new ones, nūtanaiḥ. Name lists give Nutan as "new" or "fresh", in line with the dictionary. In modern Hindi nūtan is a formal word for new, heard in the Gujarati New Year greeting nūtan varṣābhinandan. The name is best known from the actress Nutan, star of Bimal Roy's Sujata and Bandini, whose five Filmfare awards for Best Actress are listed by Guinness World Records.
