Usha meaning
Usha (उषा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Morning light, dawn
Usha (उषा) is Sanskrit uṣā, "morning light, dawn", which Monier-Williams gives alongside the Vedic uṣas. In the Ṛgveda Uṣas is the goddess of the dawn, praised in about twenty hymns as a young woman who drives away the darkness and wakes all living things, and her name shares an ancient root with words for dawn and the east in other Indo-European languages. MW also records Uṣā as the daughter of the demon king Bāṇa and wife of Aniruddha, Kṛṣṇa's grandson, whose love story is told in the Purāṇas. Indian name lists give Usha as dawn, which matches the dictionary. A well-known bearer is P. T. Usha, the sprinter who finished fourth in the 400 m hurdles at the 1984 Olympics.
