Nivedita meaning
Nivedita (निवेदिता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Made known, presented, offered, entrusted
Also used to mean: dedicated
Nivedita (निवेदिता) is the feminine of Sanskrit nivedita, the past participle of ni-vid, "to make known, to offer". Monier-Williams gives made known, announced, reported, presented, given and entrusted, citing the Mahābhārata and Rāmāyaṇa. A related word, naivedya, is the food offered to a deity in worship. Name lists usually give "dedicated", a natural reading of "offered". The best-known bearer is Sister Nivedita, born Margaret Elizabeth Noble in Ireland in 1867, who received the name when Swami Vivekananda initiated her in 1898. That year she opened a school for girls in north Calcutta, and she spent the rest of her life working in India until her death in Darjeeling in 1911.
