Lopamudra meaning
Lopamudra (लोपामुद्रा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, लो, it is a Mesh rashi name (Bharani nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Name of the wife of the sage Agastya
Also used to mean: wife of sage agastya, learned woman
Lopamudra (लोपामुद्रा) is a proper name rather than an everyday word: Monier-Williams gives it only as the wife of the sage Agastya. In the legend it records, Agastya formed her himself and had her brought up in the palace of the king of Vidarbha, and she later asked him to win great wealth before she would accept him. Retellings explain the name from lopa, "loss", and mudrā, a mark or distinguishing feature, because the creatures who lent her their finest features lost them. She is remembered as a woman seer of the Rigveda: hymn 1.179 is a dialogue between her and Agastya, and part of it is ascribed to her. Name lists usually give "wife of the sage Agastya" or "a learned woman".
