Renuka meaning
Renuka (रेणुका) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, रे, it is a Tula rashi name (Swati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Wife of Jamadagni and mother of Parashurama
Renuka (रेणुका) is the Sanskrit reṇukā. In the Mahābhārata, the Harivaṃśa and the Purāṇas, Reṇukā is the wife of the sage Jamadagni and the mother of Paraśurāma, the axe-bearing avatar of Viṣṇu. Britannica describes her as a princess of the Kṣatriya class married to a Brahman sage, and recounts how Jamadagni, doubting her fidelity, ordered his son to kill her and Paraśurāma obeyed. Monier-Williams also records reṇukā as a fragrant, bitter, greyish medicinal substance, as the name of a river and as the title of a short verse treatise by Harihara. Renuka is used in Hindu families across India.
