Deepa meaning
Deepa (दीपा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दी, it is a Meen rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A light, a lamp, a lantern
Deepa (दीपा) is a feminine form of Sanskrit dīpa, "a light, a lamp, a lantern", a word Monier-Williams cites from the Grihya Sutras, the law book of Manu and the Mahabharata. It belongs to the verb dīp, "to shine", and appears in many familiar words: dīpāvali, "a row of lights", is the source of the festival name Diwali, and the Hindi diyā, the small clay lamp, comes from the closely related dīpaka. Indian name lists give Deepa as "lamp" or "light", exactly as the dictionary does. Related names include Deepak, Deepika and Deepti.
