Durgavati meaning
Durgavati (दुर्गावती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The name of a princess; literally 'having Durgā' (durgā + -vatī)
Also used to mean: devotee of Durga
Durgavati (दुर्गावती) joins the name of the goddess Durgā with the suffix -vatī, "having, possessing", as in Padmāvatī and Sarasvatī. Monier-Williams records Durgāvatī as the name of a princess, known from an inscription. The best-known bearer is Rani Durgavati, the 16th-century queen of Gondwana in central India, who ruled after her husband's death and died in 1564 fighting a Mughal army; she is said to have been named after Durgā because she was born on Durgāṣṭamī. Name lists give "devotee of Durga". Jabalpur's Rani Durgavati University is named after her.
