Durriya meaning
Durriya (دریہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin (Urdu usage).
Brightly shining, like a pearl; said of a brilliant star
Also used to mean: shining star, pearl-like, radiant
Durriya (دریہ) is the feminine of Arabic durrī, from durr, "pearls". Lane's lexicon explains kawkab durrī as a star that shines very brightly, called "pearly" because of its whiteness, clearness and beauty. The phrase comes from the Verse of Light, where the glass around God's lamp is "as if it were a shining star", ka-annahā kawkabun durriyy (24:35). Name lists give Durriya as "shining star", "radiant" or "pearl-like", all close to the dictionary. The name is used by Muslim families in India and Pakistan.
