Najma meaning
Najma (نجمہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
A star; also a constellation, especially the Pleiades
Najma (نجمہ) is the Arabic najma, "a star", from najm and the root n-j-m. Lane's lexicon gives najm as a star or a constellation, and notes that it was used above all for the Pleiades. The Quran's fifty-third surah, An-Najm, opens with an oath by the star (53:1). Name lists give Najma simply as "star", which matches the dictionary. In Bengali and some Urdu speech the name is pronounced and spelled Nazma. A well-known bearer is Najma Heptulla, the Indian politician who served as Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha and as Governor of Manipur.
