Madalasa meaning
Madalasa (मदालसा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A Gandharva princess, wife of King Kuvalayāśva; (adj.) languid
Madalasa (मदालसा) is the heroine of a story in the Puranas. Monier-Williams records Madālasā as the daughter of the Gandharva king Viśvāvasu, carried off by the demon Pātālaketu and later married to King Kuvalayāśva. In the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa she is remembered for the lullaby in which she tells her infant sons that the true self is pure and awakened, a passage still recited today. As an ordinary adjective madālasa means languid or drowsy with intoxication, a sense the name does not carry. Families choose it for the wise queen of the story.
