Madhulika (मधुलिका) is a Sanskrit word that Monier-Williams records with two senses: black mustard, and the name of one of the Mātṛs, the divine Mothers who attend the war god Skanda in the Mahabharata. On name lists today it is given as sweetness or honey, from its first element madhu, "sweet, honey", which is the sense most families intend. The dictionary does not give that meaning for the whole word, so we show it as a popular meaning. The name has a soft, classical sound and is used across North and East India.
