Of the Vedāṅgas, the six 'limbs' or auxiliary sciences of the Veda
Also used to mean: part of the vedas, from the vedas
Vedangi (वेदांगी) is a modern girls' name, the feminine of Vedang. Monier-Williams explains vedāṅga as a "limb" of the Veda: the six auxiliary sciences that preserve and serve it, namely phonetics, metre, grammar, etymology, astronomy and ritual. Name lists give Vedangi as "a part of the Vedas" or "from the Vedas". The feminine form is not itself in the dictionary, so its sense comes from vedāṅga. Like Vedika and Vedashree, it belongs to a family of Veda-based names used by Marathi families.
