Sachin (सचिन) is used across India, but its origin is uncertain and it does not appear in Monier-Williams as a word in its own right. Some references derive it from Śacīndra, "Indra, lord of Śacī". Monier-Williams does record Śacī as Indra's wife, and the word śacī itself as mighty help, skill and eloquence, but it has no entry for śacīndra, and the usual spelling with s rather than ś does not quite match. Name lists more often give "pure" or "truth", which also lack dictionary support, so we leave the meaning open. Its best-known bearer is Sachin Tendulkar, who retired in 2013 holding the record for the most runs in Test cricket.
