Chetan meaning
Chetan (चेतन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, चे, it is a Mesh rashi name (Ashwini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Conscious, sentient, intelligent; an intelligent being; soul, mind
Chetan (चेतन) is the Sanskrit cetana, "conscious, sentient, intelligent", and as a noun an intelligent or conscious being, the soul or the mind. Monier-Williams cites it from the Kaṭha and Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣads among other texts. In the Rigveda the adjective has an older sense, "visible, conspicuous". It belongs to the large family of words from the root cit, "to perceive, to know", which also gives cetanā, cetas and cit, "thought". Name lists give Chetan as "consciousness" or "awareness", in line with the dictionary. The feminine Chetna is a separate name built on cetanā, and the name Chaitanya comes from the same root.
