Dwaipayan meaning
Dwaipayan (द्वैपायन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
Island-born; a name of Vyasa
Also used to mean: sage Vyasa
Dwaipayan (द्वैपायन) is the Sanskrit dvaipāyana, formed from dvīpa, "island". Monier-Williams translates it as "island-born" and records it as a name of Vyāsa, the sage who compiled the Vedas and is traditionally the author of the Mahabharata and the Purāṇas, born on a small island in a river. His full name, Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana Vyāsa, joins his dark complexion, his birthplace and his role as "arranger" of the Vedas. Indian name lists give "island-born" or "sage Vyasa". The name is used mainly in Bengal, where it is spelled Dwaipayan.
