Cheran meaning
Cheran (சேரன்) is a Tamil boy's name.
A Chera king, one of the three ancient Tamil dynasties
Also used to mean: ruler
Cheran (சேரன்) means a king of the Cheras, one of the three crowned dynasties of ancient Tamil country with the Cholas and Pandyas. The Tamil Lexicon refers cēraṉ to cēralaṉ, which it defines as the Chera ruler among the three Tamil monarchs, citing the Akananuru, and notes the link with Kerala, the Chera homeland. The Cilappatikaram's author Ilango Adigal was himself a Chera prince. As a boy's name Cheran recalls that heritage, much like Cholan and Pandian. Name lists give "king" or "ruler". The film director Cheran carries the name.
