Zubaida meaning
Zubaida (زبیدہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
Little cream: diminutive of zubda, cream, the choicest part
Also used to mean: excellent, elite
Zubaida is the Arabic Zubayda, a diminutive of zubda. Lane's lexicon defines zubda as a portion of fresh butter skimmed from milk and, by extension, the choice or best part of anything, 'what we often term the cream', whether of a speech, a story or an affair. The diminutive makes it affectionate: the most famous bearer, the Abbasid princess Zubayda bint Jaʿfar (died 831), wife of Hārūn al-Rashīd, was given the pet name by her grandfather, the caliph al-Manṣūr, and it is usually explained as 'little butter ball'. She is remembered for funding wells and reservoirs along the pilgrim road from Baghdad to Mecca, still called the Darb Zubayda. Baby-name lists give 'cream', 'excellent' or 'elite'.
