Andrew meaning
Andrew is a Christian and international boy's name of Greek origin.
Manly; from the Greek word for a man
Andrew is the English form of the Greek Andreas (Ἀνδρέας). Strong's Concordance derives it from anēr (ἀνήρ), "a man", so the name means "manly". It is the name of the apostle Andrew, a fisherman who, with his brother Simon Peter, was called by Jesus to follow him and became one of the Twelve Apostles. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland and of Russia. He is usually shown on an X-shaped cross, and that saltire is the cross on the Scottish flag; his feast day is 30 November. Name lists give Andrew as "manly" or "strong", close to the Greek. In India the name is used mainly in Christian families.
