Ankit meaning
Ankit (अंकित) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Marked, branded; numbered, counted
Ankit (अंकित) is the Sanskrit aṅkita, "marked", the past participle of the verb aṅk, "to mark". Monier-Williams gives two senses: marked or branded, as with a sign or seal, and numbered, counted or calculated. The link between the two is the idea of a mark that records something, whether a stamp or a figure. Indian name lists give Ankit as "marked", and some stretch it to "distinguished" or "one with auspicious marks"; a few give "conquered", which we could not find in the dictionaries. The feminine form of the same word, Ankita, is a girl's name.
