Colette meaning
Colette is an international and Christian girl's name of French origin (from Greek).
Pet form of Nicolette (Nicole), from Greek Nikolaos, "victory of the people"
Colette is a French pet form of Nicolette, itself a diminutive of Nicole, the feminine of Nicholas. Nicholas goes back to Greek Nikolaos, which Thayer's Greek lexicon explains from nikē, "victory", and laos, "people". The name was carried by Saint Colette of Corbie (1381–1447), born Nicole Boellet, the daughter of a carpenter, who reformed the Poor Clare nuns in France, Flanders and beyond. In literature it belongs to Colette, the French novelist who wrote Gigi and used her surname as her pen name. It is said koh-LET, and its meaning is close to the Indian names Vijay and Vijaya.
