Dwij meaning
Dwij (द्विज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Twice-born; a member of the first three classes, especially a Brahmin
Also used to mean: spiritually reborn
Dwij (द्विज) is the Sanskrit dvi-ja, from dvi, "two, twice", and ja, "born". Monier-Williams gives it as twice-born, a man of the first three classes, especially a Brahmin, who is "born again" through the sacred-thread ceremony. The same word also means a bird, which is born first as an egg, and a tooth, which grows twice. Indian name lists give "twice-born" and often explain it as spiritual rebirth through learning. As a name it is short and modern-sounding, and is used across North and West India; Dwija is the related girl's name.
