Heet (हित, Gujarati હિત) comes from Sanskrit hita. Monier-Williams gives its familiar senses as beneficial, wholesome, kind and friendly; as a noun it means someone's good, benefit or welfare, and as a masculine noun a friend or benefactor. Name lists usually give Heet as "love" or "well-wisher". The well-wisher sense matches the dictionary, but "love" does not: it seems to come from the close-sounding Gujarati word het, "affection", which is a separate name. The same root gives the longer names Hitesh and Hitarth.
