Hirak meaning
Hirak (हीरक) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ही, it is a Kark rashi name (Punarvasu nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A diamond
Hirak (हीरक) comes from Sanskrit hīraka, 'a diamond', a longer form of hīra. Monier-Williams records an old belief, cited from the Pañcarātra, that the gem is presided over by Śukra, the planet Venus, and also lists hīraka as the name of a poetic metre. The word is especially familiar in Bengal, where hirak is the literary word for diamond: Satyajit Ray's 1980 film Hirak Rajar Deshe is known in English as Kingdom of Diamonds, and its tyrant ruler is the Hirak Raja, the Diamond King. The name is the masculine partner of Hira, which carries the same meaning in everyday Hindi, and it sits comfortably in both Bengali and Hindi-speaking families.
