Hope meaning
Hope is a Christian and international girl's name of English origin.
Confidence in the future; hope in God
Also used to mean: trust
Hope is the English virtue word used as a name. The Online Etymology Dictionary traces the noun to late Old English hopa, "confidence in the future", used especially of God or Christ as the ground of hope; the verb behind it is of unknown origin. Hope is one of the three gifts Paul names in 1 Corinthians 13:13, "faith, hope, charity", and English Puritans took it up as a given name alongside Faith, Grace and Mercy. In India it is used by Christian families, including in the Northeast, where other English virtue names are also used.
