Evangeline meaning
Evangeline is an international and Christian girl's name of Greek origin.
Good news, the gospel (Greek euangelion)
Also used to mean: bearer of good news
Evangeline is built on the Greek euangelion, "good news", the word for the gospel. Strong's concordance defines it as a good message, formed from eu, "well", and angelos, "messenger", the same angelos that gives us angel. The name was made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem Evangeline (1847), about an Acadian girl separated from her beloved when the British expelled the Acadians from Nova Scotia, who searches for him across America for the rest of her life. It is often shortened to Eva or Evie. Name lists give "bearer of good news", which matches the Greek.
