Melody meaning
Melody is an international girl's name of Greek origin (via Latin and French).
Melody, tune; Greek melōidia, "singing", from melos, "song"
Melody is the English word for a tune, used as a girl's name since the twentieth century. The Online Etymology Dictionary traces it through Old French and Late Latin melodia to Greek melōidia, "singing, chanting", a compound of melos, "song" or "part of a song", and ōidē, "song", the source of ode. In English it first meant sweet music in general and, by about 1600, a sequence of notes that makes a tune. For Indian parents it carries the same sense as Sangeeta, Raagini or Geet, and it is easy to say in any language. It is said MEL-uh-dee.
